Our goal is to make diving safer and more enjoyable for everyone.  

When I went to look for a new dive light I was a bit disappointed with the options. They were either poorly specified, poorly constructed, or crazy expensive.  Also there had been a lot of advancements in LED and battery technology in the previous 5-10 years and the dive lights in the market weren't taking advantage of this.  I thought there must be a better way, and with a background in diving and a father who was an electrical engineer I set about finding it.  We choose the best parts we can and supply direct to provide quality lights that represent great value. 

What's different about our lights

We don't skimp on the components.  The single component that makes the largest difference is the battery, but we've endeavoured to use the best components in every step along the way, whilst still keeping them within the budget of the average diver.  We also operate a leaner model than a traditional dive shop, and we aim to keep our gear as affordable as possible. 

1. Batteries

Our batteries give you at least 30% more capacity than our competitors,  which means our dive lights stay brighter for longer. 

We mostly use Lithium-Ion batteries because they give the best capacity for their size. There is a lot of variation in the quality and specifications of Li-Ion batteries though.  The most commonly used Li-Ion battery both for dive lights and across the world is the 18650. These batteries are all more or less the same physical size, but the capacity can vary by up to 50%.  Many dive lights are using 18650 batteries that have a 2200mAh or 2600mAh capacity and are unbranded. Our 18650 batteries are manufactured by Panasonic and have 3400mAh capacity.  That's a 30% increase on a 2600mAh battery and a 54% increase over a 2200mAh battery!

2. LEDs

We use the latest LED technology to provide the greatest output and longest run times possible

One of the components I was quite disappointed in with dive lights is that some of the manufacturers were using LEDs that were several years old.  With the advancements that are being made this could reduce brightness by up to 20% for the same consumption in some cases.  We use the latest LED technology to provide the best output with the minimal energy consumption. This combined with our batteries is why even our small lights have a massive 1050 lumens and still maintain good run times. 

3. Body

We use aircraft grade aluminium, and anodise with Type III "Hard" anodising.  

There are two main types of anodizing used for dive torches, Type II (Standard) and Type III (Hard).   Type III anodising is done at a lower temperature, is more expensive, and produces a harder finish than Type II.  The key difference is that Type III (Hard) provides a surface that is more wear resistant, and has a smoother and harder surface than Type II (Standard). 

 

3. Triple O-Ring Seals 

We have twice the redundancy of our competitors

A dive light only needs one o-ring to work to prevent water ingress.  In a static situation where the o-ring isn't being disturbed such as in a set of regulators you'll find that they are using single o-ring seals.  Most dive lights use a double o-ring seal so they have 100% redundancy in the case of any failure.  We use triple o-ring seals to provide 200% redundancy, or twice the redundancy of our competitors.
